There has been somewhat of a revival when it comes to outdoor cinemas in Ibiza, with several different options popping up all over the island. This is great because you can combined a chilled retro evening with making the most of the balmy weather in the summer months, all whilst getting a bit of a culture fix at the same time. Here is our round-up of options to suit all budgets.
Forma (Free)
Forma coffee bar might look like the last place you would expect to find a secret hidden cinema venue, but they have made ingenious use of their cute courtyard to fit in a snug outdoor film-night. On Tuesday evenings throughout the summer they open their doors free of charge and show some real vintage classics, arty alternatives and foreign gems all for your viewing delight. If you are feeling parched or peckish then do not worry, the bar will be open and fully stocked with reasonably priced beer, cocktails, fresh juices and nibbles (including popcorn) to keep you going.
Cinema Paradiso (mid-range)
You would be hard-pressed to find a better location to hold an outdoor cinema than at the heart of the old town fort of Dalt Vila, and at 16€ a pop you can enjoy it without having to pay the high prices usually expected in these upmarket areas. Surrounded by ancient walls and buildings, Cinema Paradiso invites you to sit back on one of their comfy snuggle-chairs (or bean bags, as most people call them) and enjoy some complimentary popcorn whilst a classic blockbuster is played out on the big screen. All films are shown in their original language with Spanish subtitles, so if you check out their listings you will be sure to find one in your mother tongue (alternatively, this is a great way to practise your Spanish reading skills!). In the summer the evenings are hot enough to be grateful for a cool breeze, but when the evenings are cooler they do provide some blankets to keep the experience cosy. In addition to their screenings at Dalt Vila they also smaller public and private events. Cinema Paradiso.
Amante Beach (high -end)
During the summer Amante open their private beach to host an outdoor cinema tailored to be a more luxurious event. With comfortable full-length bean-bags and blankets, complementary popcorn and a glass of Jean Leon wine served to your bed and the sound of the sea lapping against the rocks, this definitely feels like a bit more than your casual movie night. And at a more expensive price of 38€ it’s definitely not one that you would want to do every Friday after work, but might fit the bill for a special occasion or romantic treat! Amante Beach Cinema.
